What is a vision board?
Making New Year resolutions is a popular ritual performed in lots of countries and cultures, including Japan. However, it is not common visualising your resolution within Japanese culture, apart from ‘Kakizome’, the act of calligraphy where you write words or phrases on one sheet of paper. In the U.S., on the other hand, making vision boards have become a popular New Year tradition throughout the years, following the scrapbooking and collage culture that grew in the early 2000s, or the spiritual concept ‘Law of attraction’ which was introduced in the film The Secret in 2006.
The board is normally large in format, so that it can be hung on your bedroom wall or above your desk. Most of the time, people combine images and words of what they want to achieve that year, whether it be dream trip destinations, career goals, or mindsets. The information presented on a vision board is meant to help you maintain a clear sense of who you are in the present, and who you want to become in the future.
Why make a vision board with Nagareyama LEAD?
At LEAD, knowing who you are is a crucial first step on your journey to becoming a Heropreneur (someone who has a skilled entrepreneurial mindset, with the courage and confidence of a hero.) When you are aware of your purpose and what truly aligns with you, the problems in daily life—and the solutions to them—become much easier to identify. As you create your own board, feel free to ask yourself: ‘What problems around me do I want to solve this year?’ ‘Who do I want to help?’ ‘What will make me feel happy?’
